listening on repeat 🎶

I just finished watching Dying for Sex on Hulu and am obsessed with this song from the soundtrack.

I listen to it when I need to shift my energy – maybe I'm feeling a little angry – but needing to be soothed.

It's niched, too. The comments on YouTube included ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘too many weird moments’ 😆 😆 😆

At just 3 mins 12 seconds, it moves quickly enough to keep my interest.

It makes me think about how the copy on your website or your newsletter subject line has mere seconds you have to capture attention.

But once you have got their attention, you still need all elements to work together.

Here's how effective copy mirrors a good song:

  • Opening bars → Hook/Headline: the micro-seconds that invite an instant yes/no from your client
  • Tempo → Pacing: The rhythm of your sentences, moving quickly enough to convey ideas without overwhelm
  • Chorus → Core message: The part your client remembers and plays over and over in the back of their mind afterwards
  • Reframe → Bridge: The moment of tension that shifts perspective. Oftentimes uncomfortable, but essential for balance.
  • CTA → Outro: A natural resolution, inviting them to take the next step with ease

When all of these pieces fit together, your copy sings.

Your ideal client isn’t just reading; they are hooked.

Listening on repeat. 🔁

Thinking of your services long after closing the browser.

Clicking "Book Call!” like it's pre-sale tickets to Taylor Swift's final show.

Here's what's different between copy + a catchy beat:

There’s wiggle room for things to be off in a song. A slow intro can make up for it with a catchy chorus. A catchy beat can outrun a mild outro.

Heck, if you love the artist enough, you don’t really care if they’re singing an “Espresso”-themed, off-key SNL ensemble number.

Copy can be less forgiving.

If your hook is generic, your message unclear, your reframe doesn’t land, you’ll probably attract the folks who drain you, leaving no space for clients who love your approach and will happily pay your rates.

I could keep nerding out about this, but I'm more curious about:

What song are you listening to on repeat?? 🎧🥁

P.S. There is one thing that enhances both copy and music: imperfection. When you hear the singer’s voice slightly crack or the laughter of band members in the background, it feels intimate, like you’re in the recording studio with them.

The same goes for words; the nuances of human-crafted copy subconsciously signal trust to readers. If your audience values authenticity, and your AI-generated copy hasn’t brought in the clients you hoped for, let’s explore working together.
