What I learned while buying flowers ๐Ÿ’

When my partner had her improv showcase last month, I was in a pickle.

I wanted to get her flowers to give at the end of the show, but I hate the cellophane-wrapped sadness of grocery store flowers.

Not crazy about the environmental impact of the cut flower industry either.

So when I caught up with my friend Andrea a few weeks later and found out she'd started a local flower business selling sustainably grown wildflower bouquets, my jaw dropped:

"Where were you when I needed you??"

Over homemade chai, with Frog and Toad playing in the background for her toddler (and maybe us, too), Andrea and I started talking about her new business.

She loves being involved in every step of the flowers' growth process โ€“ planting, tending, harvesting, and arranging. In other local flower businesses, these messier, less glamorous parts often get outsourced.

She wanted her business's message to lead with the joy infused into every part of the harvesting process.

Then I saw the issue:

She was thinking that what she got out of her work would also be the biggest benefit to her clients.

She was one step ahead. Because the reason I wanted her flowers last month wasn't that she whispers sweet nothings to her seedlings.

It was because I needed flowers that felt good to buy and even better to give to someone I love. ๐Ÿ’

Yes, the sustainability and care behind each arrangement mattered to me.

A lot.

But only after I already needed the flowers.

I saw the โ€œahaโ€ in Andreaโ€™s eyes when I explained the issue:

What drives your work isn't always what drives the sale.

I see this all the time with mission-driven businesses โ€“ especially those built around healing, sustainability, wellness, or community impact.

So often, founders become focused on communicating why they do the work they do; they forget to clearly communicate why someone should choose them.

Which is exactly why I started offering Messaging Intensives.

Theyโ€™re meant to help service professionals clarify the heart and direction of their work so they can communicate it clearly across their website and content channels to attract the clients they love to serve.

How a Messaging Intensive works:

  • You answer a detailed questionnaire that draws out everything: your values, your vision, your offers, your history, and your ideal clients.
  • We have a live 90-minute working session where I go even deeper โ€“ pulling out more threads from your backstory, testing out a few angles, and listening for the gems that make you different from other providers. (If you're local to Denver, we can do this in-person!)
  • I study your voice of customer data, media features, and current sales assets like the paparazzi.
  • Tarot + Human Design woven in, upon request. โœจ

I assemble the pieces into a structured guide that tells you exactly what to center in your message to attract the clients you love, while also staying memorable to your audience.

Your Messaging Guide has many more uses:

โš“ An anchor and a compass for your business messaging, so you can stay rooted in your mission and confidently create marketing assets that support your future goals.

โœ๏ธ A quick reference for writing sales pages, website copy, and emails, so you donโ€™t have to stare at the blank page, trying to remember the most important thing to say.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Set-and-repeat talking points for consult calls, podcasts, networking events, and speaking opportunities, so you know what to say when someone asks, "So, Reader, what do you do?"

๐Ÿ† A home for your strongest testimonials and client voice. You won't have to search your emails or EHR when you want inspiration for a compelling (or anonymized) case study.

๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ A tool to bring cohesion to your marketing team, so you donโ€™t have to keep giving the same feedback over and over, or provide all the content ideas each month.

If your business is evolving, and you know there's something more honest and real coming through, letโ€™s see how a Messaging Intensive could bring it forward.
